The timeline between the submission of the PSR application and the arrival of the refugees, changes can happen and affect the financial calculations. There could be a new born baby, a new spouse etc. In these cases, how do you calculate the budget? How do you ensure that the newcomer refugees are receiving the recommended RAP Rates? This workshop will touch on those topics and will also touch on what sponsors need to keep track of when it comes to assurance activities.

RSTP MONTHLY WEBINAR SERIES

July 2022

The RSTP Monthly Webinar Series runs every month throughout the fiscal year. There are 6 webinars in total. You can register for all 6 webinars or choose to take individual ones. The purpose of the Monthly Webinar series is to provide you with an in-depth look at all of the aspects of the Private Sponsorship of Refugees program. The series follows the experiences of a sponsorship group and the refugees they are sponsoring through the entire sponsorship process from before the application to the end of the sponsorship year.

1 – Before You Apply to Sponsor

Follow Aliya and learn about sponsorship while she finds out: who is eligible to be sponsored, who can be a sponsor, the cost of sponsorship, and an overview of the application process.

4 – Preparing for Arrival and Orientation

Hooray! Aliya’s brother and his family are due to arrive! Follow along with Aliya and the Group of Five as they make sure they have everything ready to welcome and give orientation to Samuel, Estelle and their 2 children. This interactive webinar will provide a recap of sponsors’ settlement responsibilities; review ethical considerations that are important to keep in mind when sponsoring refugees; the power imbalance that exists in the sponsor-sponsored newcomer relationship and tips on how to mitigate the imbalance; and the importance of managing expectations.
