  • Conflict Resolution Training for SAH’s & PSR Sponsors

    The Neighborhood Group (TNGCommunity Services, in collaboration with RSTP, is excited to announce that it is leading an IRCC-funded project to provide conflict resolution training and coaching to refugee sponsors.

     The project intends to train sponsors to manage complex issues and conflicts as well as receive immediate support, mediation and coaching from trained mediators, with the overall aim of reducing sponsorship breakdowns.

    Please see this flyer for details of the upcoming two-part training sessions. The first part will cover the following main topics, Cultural Consideration, Managing Bias in conflict, Conflict Sources, Conflict De-escalation, Active Listing and Setting Boundaries and the second part will involve interactive role plays.

     The sessions will be repeated throughout the year.

  • BVOR Special Info Series – Intercultural Communication Between Sponsors and Newcomers

    This webinar is ideal for new sponsors, current sponsors and any volunteers looking to welcome newcomers whom they have not yet met, to Canada.

    During this free introductory inter-cultural communication, conflict prevention and resolution webinar, participants will learn about some common causes for misunderstanding and miscommunication between sponsors and newcomers. Accredited mediator, Rola Mustafa of TNG Community Services, will share with us about some tools, techniques and resources available in navigating cultural and language barriers to ensure that everyone understands each other and that common communication pitfalls are avoided.

  • PSR Webinar for Constituent Groups and Co-Sponsors of SAH’s

    Please note: this monthly webinar is strictly for Constituent Groups (CG) and Co-Sponsors of Sponsorship Agreement Holders (SAHs).

    We will provide an orientation on the responsibilities of CGs and co-sponsors when working with SAHs to sponsor refugees under the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) program.

    The following topics will be discussed and examined during the workshop:

    The relationship between CGs, co-sponsors and SAHs;
    The minimum amount of financial support that sponsors are expected to provide to refugees sponsored under the PSR program on arrival based on the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) rates and how to use the Minimum Financial Support Calculator;
    Situations that may change the amount of financial support that sponsors are expected to provide once the refugees arrive in Canada;
    An overview of sponsors’ settlement responsibilities under the program and how settlement agencies can assist sponsors with fulfilling their settlement responsibilities; and,
    An overview of IRCC’s post-arrival assurance activities.

  • Finding Meaningful Employment and Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Privately Sponsored Refugees

    Jumpstart Refugee Talent is a refugee led non-profit organization and the only national organization exclusively serving refugees seeking meaningful economic inclusion. Program managers Saima Jamal and Shaharyar Khan will share with sponsors about their work on helping newcomers in navigating economic inclusion, meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in Canada. They will talk in detail about the existing programs in different cities throughout the country and how privately sponsored newcomers can access them.
