The timeline between the submission of the PSR application and the arrival of the refugees, changes can happen and affect the financial calculations. There could be a new born baby, a new spouse etc. In these cases, how do you calculate the budget? How do you ensure that the newcomer refugees are receiving the recommended RAP Rates? This workshop will touch on those topics and will also touch on what sponsors need to keep track of when it comes to assurance activities.

Responsibilities of CGs and Co-sponsors of SAHs

This online session will provide an orientation on the responsibilities of CGs and co-sponsors when working with SAHs to sponsor refugees under the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) program.

The following topics will be discussed and examined during the workshop:
- The relationship between CGs, co-sponsors and SAHs;
- The minimum amount of financial support that sponsors are expected to provide to refugees sponsored under the PSR program on arrival based on the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) rates and how to use the Minimum Financial Support Calculator;
- Situations that may change the amount of financial support that sponsors are expected to provide once the refugees arrive in Canada;
- An overview of sponsors’ settlement responsibilities under the program and how settlement agencies can assist sponsors with fulfilling their settlement responsibilities; and,
- An overview of IRCC’s post-arrival assurance activities.

RSTP MONTHLY WEBINAR SERIES

We would like to share a schedule for the RSTP monthly webinar series in March. The series consists of 6 live interactive webinars covering various stages in the PSR program from understanding the eligibility criteria for sponsors and applicants, to preparing a successful application, welcoming newcomers, and concluding a sponsorship period.

This series is offered on a monthly basis.

1 – Before You Apply to Sponsor

Follow Aliya and learn about sponsorship while she finds out: who is eligible to be sponsored, who can be a sponsor, the cost of sponsorship, and an overview of the application process.

4 – Preparing for Arrival and Orientation

Hooray! Aliya’s brother and his family are due to arrive! Follow along with Aliya and the Group of Five as they make sure they have everything ready to welcome and give orientation to Samuel, Estelle and their 2 children. This interactive webinar will provide a recap of sponsors’ settlement responsibilities; review ethical considerations that are important to keep in mind when sponsoring refugees; the power imbalance that exists in the sponsor-sponsored newcomer relationship and tips on how to mitigate the imbalance; and the importance of managing expectations.
