Prescription Medication/Drugs
Pharmacare provides assistance through various programs to help pay for prescribed medications and supplies listed in the Nova Scotia Formulary. The program can be accessed by all residents of Nova Scotia who have medical coverage through Nova Scotia Health Card (MSI). Under Pharmacare, sponsored refugees could qualify for the following assistance programs:
Drug Assistance for Cancer Patients – Drug Assistance for Cancer Patients – pay for certain cancer related drugs for eligible residents of Nova Scotia with a gross family income of $15,720 or less. Benefits include chemotherapeutic agents, pain medications, antiemetic agents and laxatives for use with chronic opioid therapy.
Family Pharmacare: is a provincial drug plan designed to help Nova Scotians with the cost of prescription drugs. The program is available to all Nova Scotians with a valid health card and there is no premium or fee to join the program. The annual out-of-pocket cost is capped at a percentage of family income.
Seniors’ Pharmacare:is aprovincial drug insurance plan that helps seniors who qualify for the Program with the cost of their prescription drugs.
Pharmacare Benefits – Department of Community Services: The Department provides prescription drug coverage (Pharmacare) to eligible residents including persons with disabilities and children (Low-Income Pharmacare).
Dental
Dalhousie Dental School Clinic:Patients receive dental care at reduced fees from dentistry students at the university in Halifax.
Nova Scotia’s MSI Chidren’s Oral Health Program – covers basic dental care for children from birth up to the end of the month in which they turn 10 years old.
