Provincial Health Plan
Prescription Medication/Drugs
PharmaCare: As Permanent Residents with coverage through Medical Services Plan of B.C (MSP), privately sponsored refugees are eligible for the following programs under PharmaCare:
- PharmaCare: is an income-based provincial health program that covers the cost of prescription drugs and designated medical supplies. All British Columbians are encouraged to apply.
- Cystic Fibrosis (Plan D): covers the costs of digestive enzymes and other products listed in the Cystic Fibrosis Formulary for individuals with cystic fibrosis who are registered with a provincial cystic fibrosis clinic.
- Children in the At Home Program (Plan F): covers the full costs of prescription drugs and designated medical supplies for children who are enrolled in the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s At Home program.
- No-Charge Psychiatric Medications Plan (Plan G): covers costs of certain psychiatric medications for individuals of any age who are registered with a mental health services centre and who demonstrate clinical and financial need.
- BC Palliative Care Benefits Program: covers the cost of medications used in palliative care through the PharmaCare BC Palliative Care Drug Plan (Plan P) and medical supplies and equipment through thelocal health authority for personsof any age who have reached the end stage of a life-threatening disease or illness and who wish to receive palliative care at home.
- B.C. Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS: covers the full cost of antiretroviral drugs for HIV-positive persons who are enrolled with this centre, which is located in St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Dental
Located in a food bank, the Abbotsford Free Dental Clinic provides basic dental services to those who do not have dental coverage and cannot afford to pay for it in Abbotsford, BC.
Vancouver Community Dental Health Program: Dental health services at reduced fees for children (grade 7 and younger), pregnant women and developmentally disabled adults. For a list of clinics with this program, click here.
VNHS East Side Dental Clinic: Located in Vancouver, this clinic provides cleaning services and emergency pain relief services at a reduced cost through volunteer dentists.
Nanaimo Community Dental Clinic (CODE): Volunteer dentists, dental assistants and hygienists provide emergency dental care and basic dental services following an emergency for residents of the Nanaimo-Ladysmith area who cannot access regular dental care and receive Fair PharmaCare with $0.00 (zero) family deductible.
Teaching Institutions:
The UBC Dental School Clinic provides dental care services at reduced fees (20%-40% of the regular price) in Vancouver. Care is provided by either a student dentist or a graduate resident.
The Vancouver Island University’s dental clinic in Nanaimo also provides some services during the school term.
The Dental Hygiene Clinic Services at the Camosun College in Victoria provides a range of dental health services from September to June at a cost of $35-$60 per adult and $5-$20 per child.
