Join us for a hands-on webinar about Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program. In this fifth session, we will learn how to prepare for the sponsored refugee(s) arrival.
Learning Format:
Continue to learn about the PSR program by observing our case study group’s progress. Share in their excitement, hooray! Aliya’s brother and his family are due to arrive! See how Aliya and her Group of Five make sure that they have everything ready to receive and provide orientation to Samuel, Estelle and their 2 children. We will provide a recap of the sponsors’ settlement responsibilities and discuss the ethical considerations that are important to keep in mind when sponsoring refugees. We will explore the importance of recognizing the power imbalance that exists in the sponsor-sponsored newcomer relationship and provide you with tips on how to mitigate the imbalance. Finally, learn the importance of managing the expectations of your sponsorship group as well as the newcomers’ before they arrive.
