For further information regarding refugee status determination in different countries visit<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rstp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/RSDs-by-country-updated-October-2018.pdf\">the Summary of refugee registration and refugee status determination by Country of Asylum<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you are unsure whether the document issued to the Principal Applicant would be acceptable, please<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rstp.ca\/en\/contact-us\/\">contact the RSTP<\/a><\/span><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class='content-column one_half'><div style=\"padding-top:20px;padding-right:40px;\"><p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">A <\/span><span class=\"s6\">Community Sponsor<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> is an organization, association or corporation that sponsors refugees coming to Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">These organizations do not have to <\/span><span class=\"s5\">be incorporated<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> under federal or provincial law, but they must exist as a legal entity. <\/span><span class=\"s6\">They must have:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s5\">the financial and settlement capacity to fulfill the sponsorship undertaking<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s5\">and<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> must be located in the community where the refugee is expected to settle.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">In addition, <\/span><span class=\"s6\">Community Sponsors must also<\/span><span class=\"s5\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s5\">provide evidence of settlement capability<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s5\">provide emotional and social support to a refugee and his\/her family<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s5\">and<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> commit to supporting the sponsored refugees for the period of the sponsorship undertaking, which is usually for one year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">Community Sponsors\u00a0do\u00a0not have a limit on the number of sponsorship applications that they can submit per year, as long as they can demonstrate financial and settlement capacity. Is there a limitation on the number of applications that one Community Sponsor organization can submit in a given year?<\/p><div class=\"accordion-body\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">As long as the Community Sponsor can adequately <\/span><span class=\"s5\">demonstrate\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">they have the financial and settlement capacity to successfully sponsor the refugee applications submitted, there is no limitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>  <\/div><!-- end div.wp-spoiler -->\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s14\"><div id=\"wp-spoiler-2\" class=\"accordion-box\" data-style=\"first\">  <p class=\"accordion-title\">2. Who signs the Undertaking and Financial Assessment forms on behalf of the Community Sponsor?<\/p><div class=\"accordion-body\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">The Executive Director, President or CEO of the Community Sponsor (depending on the organization\u2019s structure) must provide written authorization on letterhead designating the Community Sponsor representative to sign the Undertaking on behalf of the Community Sponsor. This CS Representative would then sign the Sponsorship Undertaking form; however, the Executive Director, President or CEO <\/span><span class=\"s6\">must<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> be the one to sign for the Community Sponsor on the Financial Assessment form. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Should no Representative be designated<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, the Executive Director, President or CEO must sign <\/span><span class=\"s6\">both<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> the Undertaking and Financial Assessment. If the Community Sponsor is <\/span><span class=\"s5\">partnering<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> with a co-sponsor individual or organization, they must sign <\/span><span class=\"s6\">both<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> the Undertaking and Financial Assessment forms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>  <\/div><!-- end div.wp-spoiler --><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s14\"><div id=\"wp-spoiler-3\" class=\"accordion-box\" data-style=\"first\">  <p class=\"accordion-title\">3. Who must provide Sponsor Assessment forms for a Community Sponsor application?<\/p><div class=\"accordion-body\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s5\">The Community Sponsor Representative, as well as any co-sponsors (individuals or organization representatives) who signed the Sponsorship Undertaking, must also provide filled Sponsor Assessment Forms and a copy of proof of Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>  <\/div><!-- end div.wp-spoiler --><\/p>\n<p class=\"s7\"><span class=\"s14\"><div id=\"wp-spoiler-4\" class=\"accordion-box\" data-style=\"first\">  <p class=\"accordion-title\">4. If a co-sponsor of a Community Sponsor organization is a individual representing a larger sponsoring group who are not an organization, would it be sufficient for the Group Representative to sign the Sponsor Assessment and include documentation noting the wider group members to show the depth of settlement support for the sponsorship?<\/p><div class=\"accordion-body\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s15\"><span class=\"s5\">The co-sponsor in a CS signs the Sponsorship Undertaking and submits a signed and completed Sponsor Assessment Form. Even if this individual is representing a wider group, this co-sponsor is a legal party to the Sponsorship Undertaking and <\/span><span class=\"s5\">may be held<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> liable for the entire <\/span><span class=\"s5\">sponsorship undertaking in the event of a default.
