Prescription Medication/Drugs
Pharmacare – is a drug benefit program for eligible Manitobans whose income is seriously affected by high prescription drug costs. As Permanent Residents with provincial health coverage through Manitoba Health, privately sponsored refugees are eligible for Pharmacare. Clients are required to pay a portion of the cost of the prescription drug (consult the Drug Benefit Formulary). The annual deductible is set based on your family’s adjusted income.
Dental
- The Access Downtown Health Action Centre provides low-cost dental services to adults and children from limited income households in Winnipeg.
- The Mount Carmel clinic provides dental services for a minimum fee to those who meet financial and residential guidelines in Winnipeg. Payment is based on a sliding scale. Net family income and number of dependents help determine cost.
- The S.M.I.LE. plus Dental Program in Winnipeg is available to families with limited means. A flat fee of $30.00 per appointment visit is charged to eligible families that do not have any insurance coverage. The fee covers regular dental care, including exams, cleanings, preventive sealants, restorations and extractions. Services are also provided for school-aged children that have limited dental coverage through First Nations & Inuit Health, EIA, or Refugee status.
- University of Manitoba Dental School Clinic: Third and fourth year dental students provide dental procedures at a reduced fee. There is a list of dental students who speak various languages and attempts to match as needed and available, otherwise client must to bring someone to interpret.
Other
The Mount Carmel Clinic is a multicultural, community health centre that provides a range of primary health care services one-on-one mental health counselling, mental health advocacy services, perinatal services (prenatal care, pregnancy tests, childbirth preparation classes, midwifery support, dietician, pharmacy, etc.), diagnostic services (lab & x-rays), footcare clinic, nursing and nutritionist service for low-income residents in Winnipeg’s North End.
