  • Sponsoring Eritrean Refugees as a Group of Five or a Community Sponsor

    Description: The Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) and the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program (Refugee SSP) are hosting a free workshop in Toronto for Groups of Five and Community Sponsors interested in sponsoring Eritrean refugees. Attendees will learn about: how they can sponsor as a Group of Five or a Community Sponsor; the requirements for refugee sponsorship; what refugee status documents are required to sponsor Eritrean refugees; and, the application process. Translation in Tigrinya and Arabic will be provided. During the workshop, attendees will have an opportunity to discuss individual cases with a pro bono lawyer from the Refugee SSP. Sign-in will start at 5.30 pm, and the workshop will start promptly at 5.45 pm.   • Refugee Sponsorship Training workshops at IS-GW

    Time: MORNING SESSION 9:30 am - 11:30 am EDT; AFTERNOON SESSION 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

    Description: The RSTP and Immigration Services Guelph-Wellington (IS-GW) are conducting this workshop to provide an overview of sponsorship, explain application forms and provide updates on new changes to Private Sponsorship of Refugees.  There will also be a hands-on forms review and Q&A with the specialist.     Description:   This free Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) workshop is for new and experienced sponsors to explore the following themes of post-arrival settlement and integration matters: Settlement challenges and best practices: Approaches to plan for the successful settlement support of sponsored newcomers, including preparing for the end of sponsorship; Ethical considerations in sponsorship: Understanding the role of sponsors in the sponsorship-newcomer relationship, and how power balances can be minimized; Managing expectations: What expectations do sponsors and newcomers have of each other, and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict, and facilitate successful sponsorship?; and Programs and support available to sponsored newcomers throughout the sponsorship, including Month 13.  Sponsors can register for the workshop by visiting the following link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/private-refugee-sponsorship-supporting-settlement-and-integration-tickets-36897130310
