  • Private Refugee Sponsorship – Group of 5 & Community Sponsor

  • Planning for the End of Sponsorship, or “Month 13”

    Date: Thursday, August 17, 2017
    Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm ADT
    Where: The Salvation Army, Spryfield Community Church and Family Resource Centre, 328 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, NS B3R 1W2

  • Information Session for Sponsors and Refugee Newcomers (Arabic & English)

    Description: The Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) and the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program (Refugee SSP) is hosting a free information session for sponsors and newly arrived refugees. Attendees will learn about: the requirements for refugee sponsorship; the refugee sponsorship application process; and, other potential immigration streams available to newly arrived refugees to bring their family and friends to Canada. The session will be conducted in English and Arabic, and attendees will have the opportunity to consult with pro bono lawyers from the Refugee SSP during the session. Light refreshments will be provided. For registration, please use the following link: https://rstprefugeesspaugust16.eventbrite.ca

  • PSR Post-Arrival Settlement and Integration

    Where: Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral Parish Center, Jubilee Room, 65 Green Street, Yarmouth NS (refreshments provided)
    Description: New and experienced sponsors are encouraged to attend a free Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) workshop exploring the following themes of post-arrival settlement and integration matters: Settlement challenges and best practices: Approaches to plan for the successful settlement support of sponsored newcomers, including preparing for the end of sponsorship; Ethical considerations in sponsorship: Understanding the role of sponsors in the sponsorship-newcomer relationship, and how power balances can be minimized; Managing expectations: What expectations do sponsors and newcomers have of each other, and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict, and facilitate successful sponsorship?; and Programs and support available to sponsored newcomers throughout the sponsorship, including Month 13.
