Description: This free Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) workshop is for new and experienced sponsors to explore the following themes of post-arrival settlement and integration matters: Settlement challenges and best practices: Approaches to plan for the successful settlement support of sponsored newcomers, including preparing for the end of sponsorship; Ethical considerations in sponsorship: Understanding the role of sponsors in the sponsorship-newcomer relationship, and how power balances can be minimized; Managing expectations: What expectations do sponsors and newcomers have of each other, and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict, and facilitate successful sponsorship?; and Programs and support available to sponsored newcomers throughout the sponsorship, including Month 13. Description: This free RSTP workshop will provide new and experienced sponsors an in-depth look into sponsoring refugees under the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) program as a Community Sponsor. Topics covered will include: the specific requirements for Community Sponsors sponsoring under the PSR program; eligibility and admissibility requirements for refugees being sponsored by Community Sponsors; the sponsorship process; which forms need to be completed; how to complete the forms; and, a step-by-step guide for Community Sponsors on how to prepare and submit a complete and successful application package. Description: Private sponsors will learn and discuss: When to start helping newcomers plan for the end of the sponsorship period, or “Month 13”; The role of sponsors during the "transition period", including the post-sponsorship relationship; and Private sponsors will be given the opportunity to share their own experiences, challenges, and ideas about Month 13 planning.
